Alta Guajira, a Trip with Social Impact

Cabo de la Vela – Punta Gallinas, La Guajira · Easy

About this adventure

In Colombia we're lucky to have landscapes found nowhere else: La Guajira is where the desert meets the Caribbean Sea.

We know the Alta Guajira faces serious social challenges, so we run this trip with the Niños del Desierto foundation, which for years, through tourism and other support, has made beautiful progress with the children of the desert: building schools and providing bikes and school supplies so the community can grow. That's why the flights we book for you include a large checked bag, in case you want to bring something to leave with them.

We'll travel from Riohacha, starting with flamingo watching at playa Camarones, and head north through Uribia, Cabo de la Vela, Punta Gallinas and finally the Taroa dunes, for a very complete trip.

Please note: lodging is in hostels in traditional Wayuu-style houses, with two nights in hammocks (chinchorros). These are not 5-star hotels; every place has been checked by our team.

About Niños del Desierto: a social-tourism project working hand in hand with the community to boost the local economy and help as many Wayuu children as possible in Cabo de la Vela and Punta Gallinas, at Colombia's northern tip. By connecting travelers with native drivers, they create direct jobs in a forgotten region.

A deposit of at least COP 300,000 holds your spot. Terms and conditions apply.
